My Son’s Vintage Inspired Nursery

My pregnancy was honestly such a gift. It was easy, and I know how lucky I am to be able to say that. When we found out we were expecting, my husband and I were so surprised and thrilled. Deep down though, I knew it was a boy. I’d had dreams of us with a son, and his name was always Campbell James, after my mother-in-law’s maiden name. And that’s exactly who we got.

Designing the nursery became my favorite project while I was pregnant. The gingham glider was the first thing I knew I wanted, and my in-laws gifted it to us. It set the tone for the whole room. Most of the art had been collected over the years, and I painted the room myself at 30 weeks pregnant. Those quiet hours painting gave me space to think about how life was about to change. My sisters made the room even more special. My older sister, who’s an interior designer, helped me pull it all together and surprised me with the sweetest hot air balloons for the ceiling. My younger sister created two pieces of art, including a little drawing of our dog, Scout. Everywhere you look, there are pieces of our family woven into the room.

My favorite corner is the changing table with the shelves above it. Campbell giggles through diaper changes, and we point to the books and artwork to distract him. The dresser is also special—it was my parents’ when they first got married, and I refinished it for him. If I could change anything, maybe I’d try wallpaper, but I remind myself nothing has to be permanent. The diaper pail has been the most practical lifesaver, and the glider is so comfy I’m already planning to move it into our living room someday. Some people say you don’t need a nursery right away, but I’m so glad we made one. His room is where he naps, plays, and spends so much of his little days. It feels like his own world, and every corner is filled with love.
